Background of Los Angeles County Perinatal Summit 2005:

"Healthy Births Through Healthy Communities: Connecting Leadership to Achieve a Unified Commitment to Action"

The Perinatal Summit "Healthy Births Through Healthy Communities: Connecting Leadership to Achieve a Unified Commitment to Action" held on Monday, October 24 and October 25 convened over 170 people representing more than 60 organizations. Participants of the Summit hosted by the LA Best Babies Network, the Los Angeles County Maternal and Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Programs and the March of Dimes collectively developed a set of recommendations for interventions aimed at improving pregnancy and birth outcomes.

Participants of Day 1 of the Summit collectively developed a set of recommendations for interventions aimed at improving pregnancy and birth outcomes. The recommendations were forwarded to key health leaders, representing health plans, hospitals, public agencies and foundations on Day 2 of the Summit. As a result of the work on Day 2, the recommendations were focused into six overarching areas of action.

The Perinatal Summit itself is the first phase in a three phase strategic process to engage communities and key leaders and identify strategies to improve birth outcomes and eliminate disparities in care.
